Our Bureau

Hyderabad, Jan. 17

Shantha Biotechnics Ltd will be increasing the volume of its vaccine exports to Pakistan soon.

The Hyderabad-based company has been exporting Hepatitis B vaccine worth half-a-million US dollars to a Pakistani company, Amsen Vaccines. “In addition to Hepatitis B, we will be exporting Tetanus Toxoid (TT) vaccine soon to the same company,” Mr K.I. Varaprasad Reddy, Managing Director, Shantha Biotechnicis, told newspersons here on Wednesday. Plans are afoot to include combination vaccines in exports to Pakistan, he added.

The volume of vaccine exports to Pakistan is also on the rise. “Last year, we had exported vaccines worth half-a-million dollars to Pakistan. This year, the value of exports would reach $1.3 million,” Mr Reddy said.

The company, which exports vaccine to over 60 countries, had commissioned its high-speed vaccine vial filling facility with an installed capacity of 2.5 lakh vials per day in May 2007.
