Telecommunications ‘New spectrum norms not in line with TRAI’s criteria’ Our Bureau New Delhi, Jan 17 The Cellular Operators Association of India (COAI) has told the Government that the final subscriber-linked spectrum allocation criteria were not in conformity with the recommendations of the telecom regulator. The Wireless Planning and Coordination wing, on January 9, had issued an order that did not prescribe the allocation for GSM operators beyond 7.2 Mhz. “It may be noted that this is not in consonance with the affidavit filed by DoT before the TDSAT, wherein it was stated that the TRAI criteria would be accepted as an interim measure,” COAI said in its letter to DoT. TRAI had recommended revised subscriber linkages up to 15MHz for GSM operators. “Further, it may be noted that for CDMA operators, the subscriber base criteria recommended by, TRAI for 5 MHz has been accepted in totality, however, in the case of GSM, a new slab of 7.2 MHz has been created, instead of accepting TRAI’s recommendation of 8 MHz,” COAI said.
