Events States - Kerala Our Bureau Kochi Jan. 17 The concept of value investing assumes significance at a time when the stock markets are reaching new highs and there is a growing fear that the gains may be wiped off in a potential crash, Mr P.S. Menon, Member of the Cochin Stock Exchange, said. Delivering a talk on ‘Value investing and the future of the stock markets’ at an investor awareness seminar organised by the Cochin Stock Exchange, he pointed out that value investing assumes greater significance since a lot of penny stocks have caught the fancy of the small investors because of ‘operator’ interest in such stocks. These operators often ramp up shares very quickly and exit, leaving a lot of such investors with burnt fingers. Mr R.K. Nair, Executive Director of SEBI, delivered the presidential address. By buying shares based on their value and not merely on hearsay, an investor would be able to hold his ground during times of market turbulence, Mr Menon said. Investors were advised to time their investments in order to reduce costs. This could be assisted by technical analysis. The reason for the heightened interest in stock market is evident from the country having the largest pool of middle class , providing it one of the biggest markets.
