Entrepreneurship States - Tamil Nadu TiECON award for entrepreneurs
Awarded: The Tamil Nadu Chief minister, Mr M. Karunanidhi, presenting the Lifetime Achievement Award to Dr. Prathap C. Reddy, Chairman, Apollo Hospitals Group, in Chennai on Friday. At right is Mr Gopal Srinivasan, Chairman, Awards TiECON, Chennai, 2008.— Our Bureau Chennai, Jan. 18 Eight Chennai-based entrepreneurs today received TiECON ‘annual entrepreneurship awards’ under different categories. The awards were given away by the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, Mr M. Karunanidhi. TiECON is a conference on entrepreneurs held annually by the Chennai chapter of TiE—The Indus Entrepreneurs, a global not-for-profit network of entrepreneurs and professionals. Founded in the Silicon Valley in 1992, its mission is to foster entrepreneurship globally through mentoring, networking and education. The founder and CEO of Subhiksha, Mr R. Subramanian, was given the ‘Extreme Entrepreneur’ of the year. The citation noted that Mr Subramanian brought into the country the concept of discount stores, which made Subhiksha a household name in the field of retail. The founders of Consolidated Construction Consortium Ltd, a Chennai-based construction company, Mr R. Sarabeshwar, Mr S. Sivaramakrishnan and Mr V.G. Janarthanam, jointly received the Entrepreneur of the Year award. Ms Hemu Ramiah, CEO, Landmark, was chosen for the Woman Entrepreneur of the Year award. Mr S. Abhaya Kumar, Founder & Vice-Chairman of LifeCell, got the award for Large Start-up Entrepreneur of the year. Mr Vivek Anand, CEO, Fitness One, for small start-up Entrepreneur of the Year. Mr Raju Venkataraman, President & Chief Operating Officer was chosen for the Serial Entrepreneur of the Year award. Ms Y.G. Parthasarathy, Dean & Director, PSBB Schools, was named the Social Entrepreneur of the Year. Dr Pratap Reddy, Chairman, Apollo Hospitals, got the award for Lifetime Achievement. Giving away the awards, Mr Karunanidhi said, “Let the common man be the focus of innovation.
