Su-Kam Power plans Rs 250-cr expansion

R. Ravikumar

Chennai, Jan. 18 Gurgaon-based Su-Kam Power Systems Ltd has drawn up a Rs 250-crore expansion plan during the next fiscal. The Rs 430-crore company, a major player in the inverter and UPS system market, recently set up a battery plant in Baddi involving an investment of Rs 100 crore to produce 5,000 batteries a day, said Mr Kunwer Sachdev, CEO of the company. With this, it currently has four plants (three in Baddi and one in Gurgaon).

Mr Sachdev, who was in Chennai to address the audience at TiEcon 2008 in his capacity as a successful first-generation entrepreneur, said the company may raise the funds through equity placement.

Su-Kam’s products are present in over 50 countries globally; last year, its export turnover was Rs 27 crore. The company is now targeting the US market. “We recently dispatched our first consignment to the US,” he said. Betting big on the US market, it hopes to take its export income to Rs 75 crore and the total turnover to Rs 590 crore during the current fiscal.

During the last financial year, Reliance India Power Fund of ADAG and Temasek Holdings of Singapore invested $ 5 million each. Together they hold 19 per cent.
