Low-cost housing design

Kochi, Jan. 18

The Kochi-based architect firm Ajit Associates has taken up the task of developing cost-effective housing for financially weaker sections of society as its social obligation. Mr B.R. Ajit, Chief Executive, Ajit Associates, said in a statement that the project is a new concept in cost-effective construction by reducing the cost through design elements rather than using cheap materials. It also provides expansion of up to 100 per cent. The company will provide five proto-types to deserving people. The cost of the units will be approximately Rs 1 lakh each and the cost will be entirely met by the company. Mr Binoy Viswom, State Housing Minister, announced the project for weaker sections at a function held at Hotel Le Meridien, to mark the 30th anniversary of Ajit Associates. - Our Bureau
