New Products & Services Info-Tech - Hardware States - Other States HP-based electronics firm unveils LCD TVs, laptops Our Bureau New Delhi, Jan. 20 Newly launched Himachal Pradesh-based consumer electronics firm, Markson, has unveiled a product range including LCD televisions, DVD players and laptops, which it claims will offer “quality electrical products at affordable prices for India’s masses.” Mr Sunil Gupta, company Chairman and Managing Director, told presspersons the products will offer technical innovation and value. Markson’s LCD televisions will start from Rs 20,000 for a 20-inch model, while a basic home theatre system, will retail at Rs 6,000. All LCD screens will include a USB port to allow buyers to screen films directly from memory sticks. Markson aims to tap into the growing consumer populations beyond the country’s major cities. Five Delhi showrooms will be supplemented by two hundred independent distributors spread across towns in North and north-east India, with smaller presences in Maharastra and Gujarat. The company will also export televisions to Bangladesh and Africa. “About 60-70 per cent of the manufacturing will take place in India,” Markson President, Mr S.K. Mathur, said. Five hundred employees are spread across factories in Baddi, Parwanoo and Haridwar. But laptops will be imported from China, along with refrigerators, microwaves and air conditioners, which will be available by the middle of the year.
