Indian winners’ complaint on lodging

Our Bureau

Mumbai, Jan 20 “I had to stay at Hotel Narsimha at VT in a mixed dormitory (with guys) and only after I complained, did they shift me with other girls at Hotel Sea Green,” said second runner up for women’s half marathon Ms Preeti Rao, at the press conference.

Mr Surender Singh, winner of the men’s half marathon too complained of having to put up in a dormitory, while international athletes were provided rooms in the five star hotel Hilton.

“It is an open event and there are no ‘rights’ for the athletes here, still we go out of our way and try to accommodate some of the ‘elite athletes’ (with international acclaim),” said Mr Vivek B Singh, Joint Managing Director, Procam International, the organiser of the event.

Mr Adille Sumariwalla, Chairman & Managing Director, Clear Channel Outdoor, said: “There seems to be a slip somewhere and we apologise for it, we were not made aware of the issue at all. ”
