NPIL executive still missing

Mumbai, January 21

Four days after a senior executive of drug-maker Nicholas Piramal, Mr Ashwani Bhat, went missing on his way back to Indore from Gwalior, the company waits for more information on the suspected abduction, a company official said. The drug company’s Chairman, Mr Ajay Piramal told Business Line that there has been no change in the situation since the incident on Friday.

Mr Piramal has also met Mr Bhat’s family after the incident. Mr Bhat is the head of Nicholas Piramal’s formulations manufacturing. He was reportedly returning to Indore from Gwalior where he had attended the Madhya Pradesh Exportech meet 2008 and given a presentation at noon on Friday, when he went missing, an agency report quoting the police and company officials said. According to news agency reports from Bhopal, a police team that went to Rajasthan’s Dholpur district found Mr Bhat’s blood-stained car, giving rise to suspicions that he had been abducted. Another company official told this correspondent that there were leads that were emerging. With no calls being made for ransom, it is still unclear whether personal or professional reasons were behind the suspected kidnapping. Further, it was pointed out that there have not been any incidents related to industrial relations or other problems with competition in the region. However, the region is prone to crime and dacoits, he said. —
