Auto LPG station inaugurated in Vizag

Visakhapatnam, Jan. 22

It is desirable to run vehicles on LPG and CNG, and more gas dispensing stations should be set up in the public as well as the private sector, as it will be more economical to drivers and also lessen pollution levels, according to Mr K. Rosaiah, State Finance Minister.

He was speaking here on Tuesday at Marripalem after inaugurating an auto LPG dispensing station — Mygaz — set up by Pan Fueltech (P) Ltd, of the Sahuwala group.

Mr Rosaiah said that as Vizag is one of the fastest-growing cities in the country, there is an urgent need to decrease vehicular pollution levels by using LPG and CNG. He advised vehicle-users to go in for proper gas conversion kits and use LPG instead of illegally using the domestic gas cylinders, which is hazardous.

He complimented the company for setting up the first auto LPG station in the city in the private sector.

More stations

Mr P.K. Gupta, Chairman of the Sahuwala group, said the company was planning to set up 30 such stations, along the National Highway from Bhubaneswar to Chennai. “We will have to invest Rs 60-70 lakh on each station, excluding the land cost, and we have tied up with the Italian company, Lo Gas, for the requisite technology. We have been engaged in the manufacture of LPG cylinders and tanks and other auto components since 1982. Our group enjoys a market share of 80 per cent in LPG cylinders. We supply to PSU companies as well as the OEMs,” he said.

He said that later the company would also set up CNG stations.

“It all depends on the response of the public and the encouragement given by the Government. A campaign should be carried out for educating the public on using LPG in vehicles,” he said.

Mr Gupta said the Sahuwala group had also roller flour mills in the coastal districts. The group turnover was Rs 400 crore, of which the cylinders accounted for Rs 70 crore.
