The first export consignment of readymade garments from the apparel export park at Vadlamudi near here will be despatched at the port here on Wednesday. Sai Theertha Apparels and Exports is sending a container loaded with readymade garments to Italy, according to Ms A. Sailaja Venugopal, MD, and Mr A. Venugopal Naidu, Executive Director.

At a press conference here on Tuesday, they said the company had received orders worth Rs 75 lakh from Italy and the first consignment worth Rs 19 lakh was being sent to Naples on Wednesday. The next consignment would be sent to Genevo (Italy) on February 15.

They said that the unit, registered with the Apparel Export Promotion Council of India, was established six months ago and was the first in the city to receive a direct export order. The unit was established at a cost of Rs 1.20 crore, with 250 sewing machines and has a workforce of 400, all women.
