NRI body keen to set up community colleges

Our Bureau

Hyderabad, Jan 22 Maryland India Business Round Table (MIBRT), USA, is looking forward to collaborating with the Andhra Pradesh Government to set up community colleges and IT finishing schools in the State.

MIBRT — an Indo-US investment promotion body set up by some Non-Resident Indians in association with Maryland industrialists — had facilitated a partnership between the Montgomery College, Maryland, and the Government of Haryana recently.

“We are interested in doing the same with the Government of Andhra Pradesh, besides promoting trade ties between Andhra Pradesh and Maryland in particular, and India and the US in general,” Mr Subbu Kota, Co-Chairman, MIBRT, said at the inaugural function of MIBRT India chapter here on Tuesday.

Mr Ronald D. Watts, Co-Chairman, MIBRT said with 58 leading educational and research institutes such as John Hopkins University, Maryland, would be useful for the Indian education sector. It could also be a profitable destination for Indian sea food exports and other coastal-based industries, he added.

Mr M.M. Pallam Raju, Union Minister of State for Defence, who formally launched the chapter, said that prospects of collaboration were large between “the east coast of America and east coast of Andhra Pradesh”.

Indian companies should benefit from the expertise of the Maryland-based industries in the biotech, software, defence and security sector, he opined.

As the employability of Indian graduates is a concern for the industry, MIBRT should work towards fostering collaboration in vocational training and setting up finishing schools, he added.
