Outlook Industry & Economy - Accidents States - Gujarat EMRI plans call centres and expansion Virendra Pandit Ahmedabad, Jan. 22 The Hyderabad-based Emergency Management Research Institute (EMRI), a non-profit organisation providing integrated emergency services in Andhra Pradesh and Gujarat, is set to expand across India by 2010 and employ one lakh people at its proposed 22 emergency response centres (call centres). By 2010, the annual budget of the organization would be nearly Rs.2,000 crore, its CEO, Mr Venkat Changavalli, told Business Line here. EMRI, patronised by the former President Mr A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, among others, is going to have a fleet of 10,500 ambulances across the country to provide its much-acclaimed Call 108 emergency assistance integrating medical, police and fire services round-the-clock. Each of these ambulances would cost around Rs.14 lakh on an average. In Delhi, where the service is scheduled to be launched in the next two months, EMRI is planning to have 140 ambulances as also 72 two-wheelers to provide emergency services despite traffic snarls.
