Potato gains on cold weather

Mumbai, Jan. 24 Commodity markets seem to have followed their international counterparts which recovered sharply after the US Federal rate cut.

Soyabean recovered by 2.11 per cent to Rs 2,011 per quintal following gains in the Chicago Board of Trade.

Barley for April delivery on NCDEX was up 1.65 per cent to Rs 995 per quintal, while in the Jaipur spot markets rose Rs 30 to Rs 1,300 per quintal.

Jeera hit the lower circuit of four per cent, but pared some of the losses to close 3.27 per cent lower at Rs 10,310 per quintal. Sugar March contract fell marginally to Rs 1,508 per quintal.

On MCX, potato Tarkeshwar and Agra jumped 3.73 per cent and 1.72 per cent to Rs 534 per quintal and Rs 591 per quintal on concern over cold weather in northern India.
