KSEB plans to give connection on demand

Our Bureau

Thiruvananthapuram, Jan. 23 The Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB) has planned to equip itself to give power connection immediately after the application has been made.

As part of the programme, the board meeting of KSEB held here on Wednesday decided to give connections to all those who had applied till January 1 this year.

The board meeting also decided to complete in a time-bound manner all works in respect of raising the voltage level, for which permission had been given till January 1 this year.

Projects

As many as 5,000 projects will be taken up for the purpose, according to a statement from KSEB. At present, every electrical section is laying a minimum of one kilometre of 11 KV line a month to raise the level of voltage in the area.

As of now, there are 636 section offices in the State and laying more 11 KV lines will help bring down the proportion between low-tension and high-tension lines, which is currently at 1:6. After completing the ongoing projects, the proportion will come down to 1:4.

The fall in the proportion of low-tension and high-tension lines will result in reduction in transmission losses. The target is to cut down the transmission losses from the present 21.47 per cent to 16 per cent, which is expected to be achieved by 2012.
