Our Bureau

New Delhi, Jan. 23 The board of directors of the US-India Business Council (USIBC) on Wednesday announced that Ms Indra K. Nooyi, the global CEO of PepsiCo, had been elected to the position of Chairman of the council. She will be the first woman to serve at the helm of the business advocacy organisation.

The USIBC comprises 250 of the largest US companies investing in India, joined by more than two dozen global Indian companies. The mandate of USIBC is to deepen two-way trade and strengthen US-India commercial ties.

“At this important moment in US-India relations, and at this point in USIBC’s 33-year history it is truly fortunate to have someone of Indra’s talent, insight and vision to leverage the business communities of both countries and to cement the promise of the US-India partnership,” said the departing-Chairman, Mr Charles “Chip” Kaye.

Mr Kaye is Co-President of Warburg Pincus, the New York-headquartered private equity firm that has been a consistent investor in India since economic liberalisation. “We are indebted to Chip Kaye for his dedication to USIBC over the past three years,” said Ms Nooyi.
