Human Resources
Our Bureau Hyderabad, Jan. 23 Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) has come up with yet another innovative human resource initiative — placing some of its trainees and fresh recruits at client sites overseas. They would then be back home at TCS’ respective development bases to serve the same client’s global operations. This is to help them understand what the work demands and enable them to interface with clients better. A pilot initiative is being pioneered by TCS here for a major global telecom client, for which the company provides services. As per the initiative, it expects to place about 5 per cent of its fresh recruits with client sites, according to Mr V. Rajanna, General Manager, TCS, and Centre Head of Hyderabad operations of the company. Addressing a press conference here on Wednesday, Mr Rajanna said that the company continues to innovate and make it attractive to employees and this is one such effort which would help bring down the overall attrition levels, which is already very low at about 12.2 per cent overall and 11.1 per cent for IT services. The company continues to expand its association with engineering colleges and finishing schools such as Jawahar Knowledge Centres (JKCs), that help bridge the skill gap, he said. Referring to the Global Academic Interface Programme that nurtures the industry-academia relationship, including joint research and development programmes, Mr Rajanna said that the pool of science graduates with fresh crash-course in technology is being expanded. HYDERABAD EXPANSION“TCS employs over 6,000 people in Hyderabad centres, and has recruited about 4,000 people, including about 2,700 freshers during 2007. There has been no slowdown from our side in terms of handing over offer letters,” Mr Rajanna said. Synergy Park, the company’s latest technology hub, is poised for commissioning next month.
