JSW Steel gets into galvalume production

Our Bureau

Mumbai, Jan. 24 JSW Steel has modified one of its galvanizing line to produce galvalume — a zinc–aluminium coated steel product.

The company has a technology licence from US-based BIEC International Inc to produce galvalume sheets — the fastest-growing sheet steel product known for corrosion resistance and heat reflection.

Patented alloy

A patented alloy of barrier-resistant aluminium and corrosion-fighting zinc provides galvalume superior corrosion resistance.

Most galvalume substrates feature an alloy that is 55 per cent aluminium, 43.5 per cent zinc, and 1.5 per cent silicon.

Mr Jayant Acharya, Senior Vice-President, Sales & Marketing, JSW, said: “The added advantages of this product will take the construction standards in India to a much higher level.

“With the pre-engineered building industry coming up in India, JSW Steel will benefit by catering to the growing demand of this product, which is now dependent on imports.”

Galvalume steel roofing totals over 40 billion square feet worldwide, covering buildings of almost every type.
