Our Bureau

New Delhi, Jan 24 The Union Cabinet on Thursday approved the establishment of All-India Institute of Ayurveda, an autonomous organisation under the Department of AYUSH (Ayurveda, Yoga and Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha and Homoeopathy).

The Government has already allocated 11 acres in New Delhi for the institute which will also have a 200-bed research and referral hospital. It will initially be set up as an autonomous registered body of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare and will be fully funded by the Union Government with the objective of raising it to the status of Deemed University in 10 years, the Information and Broadcasting Minister, Mr P.R. Dasmunsi, told reporters here.

The Cabinet also approved the appointment of a Director with supporting staff for the project. The move is to help facilitate scientific validation, quality control and standardisation and safety evaluation of Ayurveda products said an official release. It would also help standardise Ayurveda-based tertiary health delivery and promote interdisciplinary research and education of Ayurveda at post-graduate and post-doctoral levels.
