Employee ‘ownership’

The article “Why employees don’t take ownership” made interesting reading. Often, many employees complain about the organisation structure and management. But any initiative to change the system or improve the working culture is always greeted with resistance by trouble-makers.

The other part is, such disgruntled workers feel they need to be paid for everything extra that they do, though many others feel there is nothing wrong in adding value to one’s services, even unasked by one’s superiors. This not only helps personal development, it also improves the work culture and adds to the feeling of ownership.

The moment one feels dissociated from an activity, one ceases to pay attention to detail. And the service provided reflects the fact that it is done under compulsion and without free and creative thinking.
