‘Centre committed to revival of BHPV’

ICRA to take up revaluation of the company

The revaluation of the Bharat Heavy Plate and Vessels (BHPV) is being taken up by the ICRA, as a prelude to its merger with the BHEL and the report is likely to be submitted by the second week of February.

The Union Cabinet may take up the issue again by the end of the month, according to Mr T. Subbarami Reddy, Union Minister of State for Mines.

After reviewing the progress of project with the District Collector, he said at a press meet here that the UPA Government was committed to the unit’s revival and there need be no apprehensions on the count.

He Meanwhile, Mr Reddy said that the approach lights needed to be repaired at the Visakhapatnam airport for night landing. Almost 70 per cent of the work had been completed.

The Minister said he had taken up the issue with the Director-General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) and the Airports Authority of India. In all probability, he said, night landing may become a reality by the end of March, he pointed out.

Under the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission, the construction of 6,000 houses was in progress in the city and another proposal for 10,000 houses at a cost of Rs 214 crore was awaiting sanction by the State-level Sanctioning Committee. Till now, Rs 40 crore has been spent on the project.

The Minister said the Bus Rapid Transport System was also being hastened and the tenders for the first corridor might be called by the end of February. The Union Government had released Rs 56 crore for the project and the administrative sanction by the State Government was awaited.
