Nissan Copper completes Gujarat plant expansion

Our Bureau

Mumbai, Jan. 25 Nissan Copper Ltd, a copper pipe manufacturer, has completed expansion of 600 tonnes per annum at its Umbergaon plant in Gujarat.

“It will be fully operational by next week. The total capacity in the plant will go up from 1,200 tonnes to 1,800 tonnes,” said Mr Ratan Mardia, Managing Director, Nissan Copper.

The company has a total copper pipe manufacturing capacity of 10,800 tonnes per annum, which will now go up to 11,400 tonnes post-expansion. Apart from Umbergaon, it operates another plant of 9,600 tonnes per annum in Silvassa, Gujarat.

Growing demand

The demand for copper pipes, which finds usage in engineering, plumbing and refrigeration sectors, is witnessing good demand.

“We expect the demand to grow by 20-25 per cent per annum for next four years. The domestic companies have good opportunity for growth as about 40 per cent of the total demand is met by imports,” Mr Mardia said.

More investments

The company is planning to invest another Rs 100 crore to further enhance capacity further by 6,000 tonnes per annum. “We want to make the maximum of the current expansion before venturing into our new investments,” Mr Mardia said.

The company expects its turnover to touch Rs 130 crore by end of the financial year 2007-08, and targets Rs 250 crore for the next fiscal year.
