BSNL IPO tangle

This is with reference to the news item “BSNL may not go in for IPO, after all” (Business Line, January 17). The pullback is due to the threat from the service unions, which find the proposal disappointing.

The role of service unions is to protect the interests of the employees and they have no role in deciding policy matters. It is up to the top management to decide on the policies. The communication sector enjoys bright prospects as there is enough scope for introducing latest technologies and innovations that can leave the cash registers ringing.

To accomplish this, the company needs funds, which can be mopped up through the IPO.
