Plans for transport academy

Madurai, Jan. 28

The State Government has plans to open a transport academy in Chennai at an outlay of Rs 4.5 crore, the Transport Minister, Mr K.N. Nehru, has said. Speaking at a function to inaugurate a State Transport Corporation depot at Thuvakudi, near Tiruchi on Sunday, he said the move is to enhance the quality of transport services, improving driving skills and introducing technology innovation in fleet maintenance. The Government has also plans to start the units of Institute of Road Transport to offer training in driving. On the demand for wage revision, the sources said the Minister informed that the Government wanted the term of wage agreement fixed at three years, instead of five years, and the demand for the revision would receive due consideration. - Our Correspondent
