ISB plans centre of excellence for leadership, innovation

Bindu D. Menon

New Delhi, Jan. 29 The Indian School of Business, Hyderabad, will soon set up its fifth Centre of Excellence even as it is mulling to set up a new campus.

The B-school, which has been ranked number twenty in the global B-School ranking by Financial Times, London, said it is also planning to increase the intake of students for the next academic session.

“ISB has four centres of excellence to assist students in their career path. The fifth Centre of Excellence for Leadership, Innovation and Change will be started in this academic session,” Mr M. Rammohan Rao, Dean-ISB, said. The B-school, founded by Mr Rajat Gupta, former CEO of McKinsey, is planning to extend its footprint in the North.

“We are looking to open another branch somewhere in North,” he said, adding that it is scouting for the location.

Student intake

ISB will be increasing its student strength from 420 to 450 by 2009. “The demand from industry is swelling in tune with the economy,” Mr Rao said.

He said ISB is also looking to scale-up the number of foreign students in the campus. “Currently, foreign students contribute as much as five per cent of our student profile. We want to take the number to at least 15-20 per cent in the next two years”.

On being ranked as a global school, Mr Rao said, “An external validation will give an impetus to our image. If businesses can be ranked, than why not rank B-schools.

The school is committed to becoming a research hub with focus on emerging markets as well as a knowledge partner to the industry.”

ISB runs postgraduate programmes in management, post doctoral programmes as well as an executive education programme for serving executives.
