Diversified Emami net up 48% at Rs 37 cr Our Bureau Kolkata, Feb. 1 Emami Ltd, for the quarter-ended December 31, 2007, has recorded a 48 per cent increase in profit after tax at Rs 37.35 crore, up from the Rs 25.25 crore in the same period of last financial year. Net sales have recorded a growth of 13 per cent at Rs 196 crore (Rs 173.63 crore). Citing a 3 per cent growth in international business despite a 14 per cent appreciation of rupee against the dollar, the company statement issued here attributed it to the business from Middle-East and Africa. It is learnt that while development of new products and new markets continue, new thrust was being given to further development of distribution strengths and penetration in existing markets through global brand-building. According to Mr Sushil Goenka, Managing Director, Emami’s rural marketing strategy includes sales through its over 11,000 mobile traders and 2,200 small village shops covering States like West Bengal, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, Orissa, and Karnataka.
