NREGS generates wages worth Rs 1,604 cr

Hyderabad, Feb. 1 The National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (NREGS) in Andhra Pradesh has generated wages worth Rs 1,604.62 crore so far in about 20,000 panchayats.

The scheme is being implemented in 19 districts in the State. As many as 81.86 lakh job cards were issued. Of this, 79,921 households could utilise the 100-day job option fully so far this financial year.

Dr Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, Chief Minister, reviewed the performance of the programme here on Friday.

Meanwhile, a World Bank study on social audits on the scheme found that there was increased awareness on the job guarantee programme.
