Chennai, Feb. 01

Madras Cements has expanded its production capacity to 8 million tonnes cement a year, up from 6 million tonnes.

According to a press release from the company, the clinkering facility at Jayanthipuram, Andhra Pradesh, went on stream earlier this month.

For the third quarter ended December 31, 2007, the company’s turnover grew 31 per cent and net profit 62 per cent.

To pay Rs 10 interim

The company has announced a second interim dividend of Rs 10 a share (100 per cent). Cement sales during the quarter were 14.62 lakh tonnes (14.75 lakh tonnes).

Improved realisation, despite the increase in price of coal and pet coke, has contributed to growth in profit.

. On the BSE, the company’s shares closed 2.72 per cent lower at Rs 3,803.75 on Friday.
