‘Job seekers prefer online search to other methods’

Bangalore, Feb. 2

Indian job seekers are among the highest users of the Internet when they are looking for a new job opportunity, says a study. Global HR services firm Kelly Services Global Workforce Survey sought the views of more than 1,15,000 people in 33 countries, including almost 3,000 in India, on a wide range of issues ranging from recruitment channels to various aspects of the recruitment process.

The study found almost half of them (40 per cent) got their most recent positions through an online job search.

Different modes

Other key findings of the study were that about 22 per cent of the respondents found a job as a result of being directly approached by an employer or recruiter, 13 per cent via ‘word-of-mouth’, nine per cent from a newspaper advertisement, eight per cent from directly approaching an employer and the rest through ‘other’ methods.

Online recruitment was rated the ‘preferred’ way to find a job, with 78 per cent satisfied with the outcome compared to 54 per cent who were satisfied with the traditional written and posted applications.

It also found that about 24 per cent of the respondents doubted whether their CVs presented them in the best possible way, 60 per cent voted ‘waiting for a response’ as the worst part of the recruitment process and 79 per cent believed that employers treated them fairly in job interviews.
