Industrial expo Intec ’08 begins in Coimbatore

Intec 2008, the international industrial trade exhibition sponsored by the Coimbatore District Small-scale Industries Association (Codissia), opened at the Codissia trade fair complex in Coimbatore on Friday.

Nearly 400 exhibitors representing heavy engineering, pneumatics, automation, tooling, moulds and dies, machine tooling, metal scraping, controls, gears and appliances have set up stalls at the fair. In its 10th edition, the fair has also attracted companies from countries including Germany, Italy, Korea, Spain, Japan, Taiwan, Turkey and the US.

Declaring the fair open, Mr Hermamm F. Weiler, Managing Director, GDW Werkzevg Maschinen Gmbh, highlighted the need for skill enhancement of labour through training to achieve higher ‘precision, quality and finish’ of products. With many foreign companies turning to India for components that meet looking in terms of quality, reliability and delivery parameters at competitive cost, Indian companies have to gear up suitably had to meet these demands. . The German entrepreneur recalled the spirit of Coimbatore’s ingenious small-scale industry that had captured his attention when he had visited India along with his father in the 1960s in search of business alliances.

“Today I tell those Germans who ask me where Coimbatore is in India that they should go and see the many ‘hidden champions’ in the field of manufacturing there.”
