Slowdown in Asia Pacific air cargo

Figures for 2007 released by the Association of Asia Pacific Airlines show a slowdown of the regional air cargo growth. During the year, the growth was only 3.1 per cent to 56.6 billion freight tonne km against five per cent rise the year before. However, the drop in the load factor was marginal at 66.7 per cent against 66.9 per cent in 2006. While the growth was modest, volumes were still record-breaking. The prospects, it is pointed out, also remain largely positive as t he Asia Pacific carriers are well poised to expand. However, the only concern is the potential impact of recent turmoil in financial markets.
