Mangalore, Feb. 3

The tourism potential of Dakshina Kannada district will be discussed at the one-day ‘Tourism Conclave’ on February 5, according to Mr K. Narasimha Prabhu, President of Kanara Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI).

To be jointly organised by the Karnataka Government and the KCCI, the conclave will also focus on popularising home-stay concept at arecanut plantations in Dakshina Kannada district.

He said that the outcome of the conclave will be used in the formulation of tourism policy for the State.

Home-stay concept

Highlighting the potential for tourism development in Dakshina Kannada, he said the home-stay concept should be given stress, as it will act as a second source of revenue generation for growers in the district.

“Those having home-stay facilities or intending to venture into this area can register with the KCCI and attend the conclave,” Mr Prabhu said.

Focus on tourism

On the areas for development, he said there is good scope for development in medical tourism, education tourism, eco and adventure tourism in the region.

Mr B. Sambamurthy, Chairman and Managing Director of Corporation Bank, will inaugurate the conclave.

Mr I.M. Vittalmurthy, Tourism Secretary, Karnataka Government, will be the chief guest on the occasion.

Prominent speakers from various fields, including Dr Raghuveer, Dean of Kasturba Medical College, Mangalore; and Mr P. Tamilvanan, Chairman of New Mangalore Port Trust; will speak on various tourism-related subjects on the occasion, he added.
