Dr Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister, has asked the Ministry of Railways to give green signal to the Southern Splendour Project.

The Chief Minister wrote a letter to Mr Lalu Prasad, Union Railway Minister, requesting him to include this project in the upcoming Railway Budget and provide for 50 per cent of the capital cost.

The Southern Splendour project is being planned by the four Southern States on the lines of Palace on Wheels. The project has mapped all the major tourist destinations along the rail route in the region.

He said the States would pay the haulage costs as stipulated by a new policy of the Ministry. The Railway Board wrote to the States in November 2007, asking them to pay for haulage cost in place of revenue sharing.
