Chemical Summit in Ahmedabad from Feb 8

Our Bureau

Ahmedabad, Feb 5 The Gujarat Chemical Association (GCA) will organize the Asian Chemical Leaders’ Summit 2008 to bring together leaders of chemical industry from across Asia on February 8 and 9 at Nirma University here. Giving this information, the GCA President, Mr Jaimin Vasa told reporters today that about 600 delegates from India and abroad, including those from the US and China, are expected to participate in the two-day meet. They included around 250 delegates from Gujarat.

Major corporate houses are also expected to be represented.

The Gujarat Chief Minister, Mr Narendra Modi will inaugurate the summit, while Mr Nikhil Meswani, Executive Director, Reliance Industries Ltd, will be the chief guest.

The event is expected to be a ground to network with local and global players in such as chemicals, petrochemicals, pharmaceuticals, dyes and intermediaries, paints, agro-chemicals, specialty chemicals and fertilizers.

The participants would discuss the emerging scenario of the future and its associated challenges in these sectors, he said. Mr Vasa said the summit assumes importance as many of chemical industries, including those from the West, were considering to shift their manufacturing base to Asian countries, particularly China and India, due to cost-effectiveness.

In doing so, they would have to adhere to the pollution-related norms applicable in their own countries.

Mr Kalpen Shukla, Head, chemSP Consultants of Mumbai, which is knowledge partner in the event, said the event would also offer an opportunity to showcasing the capabilities of different PSUs and private organisations.

Gujarat has 770 large and medium-scale chemicals industries and 3,10,000 small-scale units.
