New Delhi, Feb. 5 Even though acoustics major Bose Corporation India has chalked out plans to expand its footprint in the country, it has wound up its research and development operations here due to lack of availability of skilled engineers.

“We have shut the R&D centre in Bangalore as we found it difficult to source engineers specialising in embedded software. Besides, the centre was not able to drive up the desired results as it was difficult to synergise operations with the office in Boston,” Bose India General Manager, Mr Ratish Pandey, said here on Tuesday.

The company is, however, highly bullish about its growth in India. “Bose is looking at India and China aggressively to expand. We will be increasing the number of the retail outlets in the country by expanding into the tier-2 and tier-3 cities as well,” he said.

Asked if it is mulling setting up a manufacturing facility, he said, “No. For consumer electronic manufacturing to be cost effective, it needs high volumes. We are only watching the trends in manufacturing. Currently, we are only looking for IT support from India. All IT outsourcing that our parent in US does is to India,” he added.

Home theatre models

The company today unveiled two models of its Lifestyle home theatre systems, V20 and V30, priced at Rs 1,29,263 and Rs 1,91,138 respectively. The high-end lifestyle home theatre systems would be retailed through the company’s 16 exclusive outlets spread across nine cities in the country. The company will do branding only through select press advertisements.

Bose Corporations has a presence in five verticals namely home, professional, automotive, noise reduction and scientific product division. In India, institutional sales account for a large chunk of its revenue.
