Market ripe for premium products: Murjanis

Sees no need to customise range

The company, which is selling its products at 350 outlets in the country, is looking at setting up its own exclusive chain

in the next few years.

Hyderabad, Feb. 5 Murjanis, a name associated with some top global premium brands such as Gucci, Jimmy Choo and French Connection, has big plans for India.

“India’s time has arrived. It is absolutely ready,” Mr Mohan Murjani, Chairman of the Murjani group, told Business Line here.

The company, however, sees no reason to customise the products for India. “The consumers expect the same products that they find at international market places. We will sell here what we are selling elsewhere. They (the consumers) will get exactly the same designs and the range as they see elsewhere,” he said.

“We should be competitive too when it comes to pricing. Consumers can send an SMS to their friends and get the price of a product instantaneously,” he said.

Mr Murjani was here recently to take part in the Brand Summit organised by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII).

Stating that the expertise in India with regard to visual merchandising was not of global standards, he said his company would bring expertise from international consultants.

IPO next year

The company, which is selling its products at 350 outlets in the country, is looking at setting up its own exclusive chain in the next few years.

“From the present 30 we will grow to 500 outlets in the next three-five years. This will cover all our nine brands,” Mr Murjani said. As it spreads its reach, Murjanis would come out with a public issue next financial year. He, however, refused to divulge the financials of the company.
