US dumping duty on shrimps to be reviewed

Our Bureau

Kochi, Feb. 6 The US Department of Commerce has announced the third round of the annual administrative review on the anti-dumping duty on Indian shrimp imports.

In a notification published on Monday, the Federal Registrar said that interested parties may request for an administrative review of the shrimp anti-dumping duty, not later than the last day of February 2008.

Export Records

A year after the anti-dumping duty was announced, the findings of the first review reduced the duty from 10.17 to 7.22 per cent. The results of the second review, which commenced in February last year, are still awaited.

Chance of reduction

Sources in the Seafood Exporters Association of India (SEAI) said that there is very good chance of the anti-dumping duty being reduced, after the second annual administrative review as well. The mandatory respondents for the second administrative review were Falcon Marine Exports and Baby Food Exports.

The Department would scrutinise the applications, verify their export records for the past year and ascertain whether to modify, reduce or increase the rate of anti-dumping and countervailing duty on that company. Based on past records, the SEAI was optimistic that the trend of falling anti-dumping and countervailing duty would continue.
