Indian arm fastest growing for SAP

Our Bureau

Bangalore, Feb. 6 SAP, the largest maker of business software, said Wednesday SAP India was the fastest growing subsidiary for the company worldwide. SAP India, which includes India, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh, is within the top 10 revenue producing countries for SAP, the company added.

Mr Ranjan Das, President and Chief Executive for SAP India Subcontinent, said total revenue for 2007 grew more than 68 per cent year-on-year over 2006. Licence revenue grew more than 100 percent and small and medium enterprise revenue grew about 230 percent year-on-year over 2006, he added.

SAP India, which began operation in 1996, added about 1700 customers in 2007, said Mr Das. By December 2007, the company had 3,024 customers, compared with 1,350 in December 2006, he added.

The company would launch a new solution for smaller companies in April, Mr Das said.

It would be available to customers around June, he said. He said the company would be hiring about 100 people in 2008 in India.

Mr Das told Business Line the main drivers for the company to be in India are the significant and large Indian market and the qualified talent available here.

He said quality talent was available in India, but comes at a price as everywhere else. But this was not a concern because SAP was not in India for cost-cutting, he said.
