Nabard award for farmers’ club

Our Bureau

Mumbai, Feb. 6 Nabard will confer best performer awards on chief volunteers of farmers’ clubs and associated bank managers selected from all States.

The award function to be held in New Delhi on February 8 will be presided over by the Union Finance Minister, Mr P. Chidambaram. The Union Minister of State for Finance, Mr Pawan Kumar Bansal, will be the guest of honour.

The farmers’ club programme, originally conceptualised and launched as Vikas Volunteer Vahini (VVV) programme in 1982 by Nabard, acts as a link between farmers and banks, besides promoting technological innovation. Some of the farmers’ clubs act as business facilitators for the banking system.

Nabard aims at promoting one lakh farmers’ clubs over the Eleventh Plan period to strengthen the agricultural credit delivery and extension system.
