Sourcing summit begins today

Our Bureau

Bangalore, Feb. 7 A two-day India Sourcing Summit (ISS) starts here tomorrow in the backdrop of a shift in India’s priorities towards manufacturing and a debate about the cost effectiveness of India and China, who have gained considerable reputation with their capabilities and low-cost offerings to services to many multinational corporations and manufacturing respectively.

The summit is being organised by the Indian Institute of Management, Bangalore (IIMB) and Supply Management Institute (SMI) and will provide a platform for constructive discussion of India as a global sourcing hub. CEOs, MDs, and senior management of leading companies worldwide will be participating in the meet.

With global giants such as Volvo and Wal-Mart planning a multi-fold increase in their sourcing operations along with leading Hollywood studios that are raising the stakes on sourcing animation and special effects from India, the ISS offers a unique opportunity to get the real picture from business leaders across industries and geographies.

The Union Commerce Minister, Mr Kamal Nath, will inaugurate the summit that will be addressed by key note speakers including the PriceWaterhouseCoopers Executive Director, Mr Ravi Bhamidipati, Dr James Rice Jr of the Centre for Transportation and Logistics, Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Dr. B. Mahadevan, IIM-B SMI-EADS Chair for Sourcing and Supply Management.
