The Almatis GmbH CEO, Mr Martin Laudenbach. ALMATIS ALUMINA: Almatis Alumina is the world’s leading producer of alumnina specialty materials. These materials offer strong resistance to heat, corrosion and wear & tear. The refractory industry is the largest end-market for specialty alumina products. Almatis’ premium aluminas are used to upgrade the performance of existing refractories to meet the more demanding requirements of today’s steel and non-ferrous industries. Headquartered in Frankfurt, Germany, Almatis has nine strategically-located production facilities in Germany, the Netherlands, Japan, China United States and India. The company, which has 900 employees worldwide, was recently acquired by Dubai International Capital. In India, Almatis has its unit at Falta, near Kolkata. “India has emerged as the second-fastest growing economy in the world. In the last four years, we have tripled our production in India. The company manufactures 75,000 tonnes per annum of high-alumina refractories and monolithics. Refractories manufactured by the company find application in the steel and cement industries. With the fortunes of the steel and cement industries in the upswing, the company is upbeat about its prospects in the future, according to Mr D. Muthukrishnan, Senior General Manager (Marketing) of Shri Nataraj Ceramic & Chemicals Ltd. VISHVA VISHAL ENGINEERING LTD Set up in 1990, VVEL started refractory manufacturing activities with cast house refractories, namely Tap Hole Clay & Runner Mass for Blast Furnaces. Today, VVEL has established itself as a market leader in Tap Hole Clay with customised requirement of all sizes of blast furnaces, ranging from 175 m3 to 3200 m3 in mini and integrated steel plants where each and every furnace has its own operational parameters and environment. In the field of runner mass also, VVEL has been a pioneer and today its runner mass, both tar bonded and resin bonded, is the preferred one in terms of quality with majority of blast furnace customers. Over the years, VVEL has become a very familiar name in respect of continuous casting refractories, purging refractories, DS & Argon lances, slag arrresting dart, precast & prefired shapes, conventional high cement to zero cement castables, basic ramming masses & gunning masses for EAF & EOF, etc. More Stories on : Events | Steel
