Telecommunications ByCell partners Quipo for mobile infra rollout
Our Bureau New Delhi, Feb. 7 Even before it receives the licences, ByCell Telecommunication has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Quipo Telecom to roll out mobile infrastructure in the North East. ByCell is one of the companies which had applied for new telecom licences. However, its applications have been put on hold as it awaits clearances from the Foreign Investment Promotion Board. “We hope to receive our licences soon. We have already got the security clearances from the Indian authorities,” said Mr Alexander Louzine, Vice-President (Operations), ByCell Telecommunications India (Pvt) Ltd. ByCell Telecommunications India (Pvt) Ltd, is a 74 per cent subsidiary of Swiss-based ByCell Holding AG. The company has been set up recently for the purpose of rolling out telecom services in emerging markets, especially India. Mr Louzine said that ByCell was keen on licences in other countries as well. Mr Arun Kapur, Group President & MD Telecom Business, Quipo Telecom, said, “We, at QTIL, are looking at expansion and increasing our footprints in remote areas of the country and enhance the telecom infrastructure. Our partnership with ByCell will enhance our services spectrum in mobile telephony.” “By using Quipo’s extensive passive infrastructure network already existing in circles of our potential reach we can quickly rollout GSM mobile telecom network. Quipo will be responsible for rolling out the passive infrastructure while ByCell will be responsible for the active infrastructure. ByCell will focus on providing low cost rural and semi-rural communications. The potential customers will benefit from quality customer experience and comprehensive coverage.” said Mr Louzine.
