Our Bureau

New Delhi, Feb. 7 The Canadian company CAE has signed a management contract to become a partner at the Government-run Indira Gandhi Rashtriya Uran Akademi (IGRUA). At a ceremony here on Thursday, a joint venture agreement was also signed between Airports Authority of India (AAI) and CAE to develop the Rajiv Gandhi National Flying Training Institute at Gondia.

Management contract

The management contract for IGRUA is initially for ten years, with the first 12 months of 2008-09 fiscal being devoted to ramp up facilities and induct more aircraft.

An official statement issued here adds that by March next year the number of pilots being trained at the Akademi will increase to 100 annually, from 40 at the moment.

Activities

CAE will manage IGRUA’s existing flight school activities, including maintenance of aircraft, flying operations, air traffic control, runway maintenance, NAV aids, fire fighting facilities, medical facilities, security, staff and student facilities, as well as transportation.

The Rajiv Gandhi National Flying Training Institute will have the capacity to train 100 pilots initially, which will be increased to 200 pilots soon.

The Prime Minister, Dr Manmohan Singh, is to lay the foundation stone this Saturday. The Institute — which is to be expected to be developed at a cost of about $25 million — will include a modern facility equipped with classrooms, a hostel, a library, a workshop, a cafeteria, a guesthouse and a club.

The school will operate new aircraft, and will use CAE’s courseware and innovative training methodologies.
