Power States - Maharashtra PM to lay stone for power plant in Maharashtra today Our Bureau Ahmedabad, Feb 8 The Prime Minister, Mr Manmohan Singh, will lay the foundation stone for the 1,980-MW super-thermal power plant, developed by the Adani Group, at Tiroda in Gondia district of Maharashtra tomorrow. The Maharashtra Chief Minister, Mr Vilasrao Deshmukh, will preside over the function while the Union Agriculture Minister, Mr Sharad Pawar, and the Power Minister, Mr Sushil Kumar Shinde, will be the chief guests, a company spokesman said today. The nearly Rs 8,000 crore power plant at Tiroda will be the first large-scale investment by the Adani Group outside Gujarat. To be built by its subsidiary company, Adani Power Maharashtra Pvt Ltd, the plant will have a capacity of 1,980 MW in three phases (660X3) and is likely to set in a record 48 months. The idea of this power plant was seeded on February 9,2007, and within one year water and fuel supply and land were in place, the spokesman said. The project will use coal mined from Lohara (West) and Lohara extension coal fields. The construction activity has begun and the company is expected to generate and deliver power by the end of 2010. The group is aiming at setting up power generation capacity of close to 10,000 MW in the next five years. Towards this, it is evaluating investments for generating 1,320 MW power in Rajasthan and 2,000 MW at Dahej in Gujarat by 2012. Largest importerThe Adani Group, which has presence in front as well as back-end of the electricity business, is the largest importer of coal for supply to power generation units for more than a decade. It owns coal mining rights in Indonesia and has placed orders for two large (capsize)ships with capacity of 1.80 lakh MT each. More Stories on : Power | Maharashtra
