Sonia to inaugurate new airport in Hyderabad

Our Bureau

Hyderabad, Feb. 8

Almost three years after laying foundation stone, Ms Sonia Gandhi, Chairperson of United Progressive Alliance’s National Advisory Council, will formally inaugurate the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RJIA) here on March 14.

The greenfield airport, however, will begin commercial operations from zero hours of March 16. The Rs 2,478-crore airport is taken up in a public-private partnership, with the GMR group holding a controlling stake.

Five weeks away from the inauguration, the airport will enter the crucial phase of trial runs of the flights on February 12, with Kingfisher Airlines and Jet Airways landing their aircraft that day.
