Rupee continues to slide

Mumbai, Feb. 8

The rupee weakened further against the greenback on Friday on dollar buying by some foreign banks, said foreign exchange dealers. The home currency opened at 39.52/53 and saw an intra-day high of 39.47, before ending the day at 39.62/63, ten paise lower than the previous close of 39.52/53. “There was all-round buying today in the market which drove the rupee to close weaker,” said a dealer at a private bank. In forwards, the six-month premia closed at 0.76 per cent (1.28 per cent) and the 12-month at 1.04 per cent (1.31 per cent).
