Pune, Feb. 9 The Prime Minister, Dr Manmohan Singh, has said business leaders must learn to play on the pitch they were given, and urged them to compete on un-level playing fields and prove themselves.

Speaking at the Mahindra United World College of India (MUWCI) here on Saturday, Dr Singh said that boys and girls from modest social and economic backgrounds who secured admissions in the best institutions of the world had shaped the image of Brand India across the globe.

stiff competition

“Across a range of professions, Indians have faced stiff competition on un-level playing fields and done well. They hold an example for our business leaders, who must learn to compete on an un-level playing field, and prove their mettle,” Dr Singh said, adding that there was no game that was ever “truly played on a level playing field.”

Dr Singh was in the city to inaugurate Van Vihar, an in-campus bio-diversity park and reserve, a special project initiated by the students and faculty of the MUWCI. To mark the 10th anniversary of the college, he also planted a sapling on the campus.

The bio-diversity park covers approximately 170 acres and aims to enhance the existing species of flora and fauna in this section of the Western Ghats, considered a global biodiversity hotspot by environmentalists across the world.
