Escorts launches crawler cranes in pact with Japan’s IHI

Our Bureau

Hyderabad, Feb. 10 Escorts Construction Equipment Ltd (ECEL) has signed up with the Japanese major, IHI Construction Machinery Ltd, to bring hydraulic crawler cranes to the Indian market.

The company launched the crawler cranes, used in the construction and material handling sector, at a function held here on Saturday. The first crawler was handed over to Navayuga Engineering Co Ltd, a leading infrastructure company here.

ECEL, which manufactures construction and material handling equipment, will market the total range of crawler cranes of IHI Construction Machinery, part of the $12-billion IHI Ltd, in the Indian market, according to Mr Rajesh Sharma, its Associate Vice-President (Marketing &Sales).

Speaking at the function, Mr Sharma said IHI Japan is among the top manufacturers of cranes, and among the few in the sector. With the infrastructure and real estate sector booming, the company plans to leverage the partnership.

Mr Tsuuneo Nagase, Deputy General Manager (Crane Group), IHI, and Mr Koji Hibino, GM (India Operations), formally handed over the key to Col S.B. Puri, Director at Navayuga Engineering.

Demand call

They said IHI will have to beef up its production facilities to meet the big demand from India that is expected for the product. Endorsing the view, Col. Puri said his company has already ordered two more cranes for the ongoing Krishnapatnam Port project in Andhra Pradesh.
