Airlines Industry & Economy - Foreign Trade ‘Make Amsterdam European hub for Indian airlines’ Ashwini Phadnis New Delhi, Feb 11 The Dutch Government has invited airlines from India to set up their European hub at Schiphol airport in Amsterdam. The invitation was extended during a meeting that the Dutch Minister for Transport, Mr Camiel Eurlings, had with senior officials of the Ministry of Civil Aviation here on Monday. At the moment while Jet Airways has made Brussels as its European hub, Air India is considering Munich as a hub. Kingfisher Airlines, the only other airline which will be entitled to operate flights abroad from August this year, has not yet decided whether it plans to have an international hub. Direct linksSpeaking to Business Line, Mr Eurlings said that Netherlands was also keen to have more direct air links with India. “We are keen that not only our national carrier KLM but also Indian carriers look at having direct operations to Amsterdam,” Mr Eurlings said. Currently, KLM operates flights to Mumbai and Delhi among others and is keen to expand operations in India. The Director, Government and Industry Affairs, Mr Roeland van Klaveren, said the airline was also keen to start operating flights to Bangalore. “If KLM gets the rights to operate to Bangalore, the airline is unlikely to have a daily flight. The chances are we will start with a three-times-a-week flight and gradually increase it to a daily flight,” Mr Klaveren said. The Minister, who is on a visit with a 54 member delegation which includes companies from the aviation and maritime logistic industry, felt that Dutch companies could also help in providing greater connectivity to hinterland areas from ports and airports through out the country.
