E-Governance States - Andhra Pradesh AP State Archives to be digitised with Iranian aid
Our Bureau Hyderabad, Feb. 12 Rare and historical documents preserved at the Andhra Pradesh State Archives will soon be digitised with assistance from the Iranian Government. The State Government had entered into a memorandum of understanding with the Cultural Counsellor of Islamic Republic of Iran in this regard, according to a release. The entire expenditure of the project would be borne by the Iranian Government and the AP State Archives would have to provide sufficient space in its premises for installing the hardware and software. The total cost of the project could be around Rs 200 crore and Iran was ready to extend Rs 60 crore in the first phase. Rare documentsA two-tier committee, to be set up by the Government, would decide on the prioritisation of the documents to be digitised. All the rare documents written in Persian, Arabic, Urdu, English, Telugu, Kannada and Marathi would be part of the digitisation project. Set up in 1894 by the Nizam of erstwhile Hyderabad State, the archives houses about five crore manuscripts and books pertaining to the history and culture of the Mughals, Deccani Sultans such as Bahamanis, Qutub Shahis, Nizams, and the East India Company records. Easy access, copyingThe digitisation project, to be completed in three years, would facilitate simplification of catalogue, easy access to manuscripts and documents, easy copying, simplified research data for researchers and transfer of data online to any other governmental agency or research institute, the released added.
